Every Designer has its very own toolbox which takes a huge part of the result of any design work. In the winter semester 2015/2016, the students of the project by Prof. Brian Switzer assembled their own toolbox: ‘Make your own tools’ was the title of the seminar, using analog and digital tools. In this particular experiment a tin foil roll was the starting point in the process of creating a very special typeface.
An experimental typeface with unusual and abstract shapes was created by using aluminium foil. Letters were printed on DIN A4 in order to get a refl ection on the aluminium foil by holding it straight next to each other.
In the studio a picture has been taken of each refl ection which I then finalised digitally in order to get the following results. The distortion of the letters make the typeface vivid and alive.
